No Child Left Behind


President Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act on January 8, 2002. The law helps schools improve by focusing on accountability for results, freedom for states and communities, proven education methods, and choices for parents. We currently have many students participating in this program.

 

After School Programs
The S.S.C.C.S.D is committed to providing a safe place for children K-12 to have fun while learning new skills and broadening their education with diverse activities. 

The S.S.C.C.S.D After-School Program offers: 

· Academic Assistance – Children and teens can get help with their homework as well as receive supplemental tutoring in subjects such as math, science, reading, writing and computers. 

· Enrichment Activities – Children enjoy arts and crafts, music, dance, games and multi-cultural story telling with the After-School Program. 

· Development Activities – Group discussions targeting the development of social skills (leadership, team building, conflict/resolution) as well as health/ nutrition education and crime prevention education, are offered for all ages. 

· Mentorship – Adult to child mentorship is provided by the S.S.C.C.S.D from both Sudanese and non-Sudanese adult volunteers. 

· Athletics – General recreation activities are enjoyed at each session. The S.S.C.C.S.D youth soccer league (sponsored by the American Athletic Foundation) is also available for those who wish to develop soccer skills and enjoy a team sport.

· Community Involvement: Community project support group, parent involvement & acculturation, volunteers, mentoring, and community base organization partnerships
